Christmas Carol Concert - St Peters Church
Celebrities descend on Titchfield to support charity Christmas concert
Local celebrities will descend on Titchfield this December as Wessex Cancer Support hosts its much-loved annual Christmas Carol Concert.
Tickets are now on sale for the festive fundraiser, which will this year feature festive readings from BBC broadcaster Sam Fraser and Eggheads star Kevin Ashman.
A previous carol concert at St Peter’s
The concert takes place on Monday, 8 December, at St Peter’s Church, the oldest church in Hampshire.
The evening will bring together local musicians and performers for a night of Christmas carols, original arrangements and festive readings.
The line up will also feature the likes of Wessex Cancer Support’s Sing for Life Choir, whose members have been affected by cancer, dance students from Castle View Academy and singer Lisa Locarno, who will be singing Christmas classics.
Now in its fifth year, the concert has become one of the charity’s biggest and most anticipated annual events.
Lorraine White, Head of Community, Events and Partnerships, said:
“Our Christmas Concert is always a highlight of the year and the perfect way to start the festive season. The money raised helps us continue to provide vital emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer across the Wessex region. We can’t wait to welcome everyone for another magical evening.”
Guests can also enjoy an exclusive VIP reception before the concert, which includes a meet and greet with the celebrity readers, Prosecco, canapes and a traditional bagpiper-led procession to the church.
Eggheads star Kevin Ashman said: “I’m honoured to be part of Wessex Cancer Support’s Christmas Carol Concert this year. It’s a wonderful evening for a truly worthy cause and I encourage everyone to come along and join in the festive fun.”
Tickets are priced at £20 for general admission and £40 for VIP access, which includes premium seating and entry to the celebrity reception. As the event regularly sells out, early booking is strongly advised. Tickets can be purchased at www.wessexcancer.org.uk/christmascarol2025

Titchfield Ablaze 2025
Every year Titchfield village celebrates Christmas by local residents displaying a lit Christmas tree in a bracket fixed to the outside of their houses.
Would you like to join in - or join us again - and have an outdoor tree this year?
We are able to supply a 4ft Norway Spruce tree at £16.50 a small increase on last year.
East Street ABLAZE
We have chosen to supply Norway Spruce the same as last year to keep costs down. Norway Spruce trees have classic fresh Christmas fragrance and structure (pyramid shape). Their needle retention is fine for outdoor trees and are used for Trees in Trafalgar Square and at 10 Downing Street. The trees will be supplied trimmed, but may need further trimming by you to fit into your bracket as there are many different bracket sizes in the village.
We will be sending an email with an order form out shortly to names on our mailing list. Forms will also be available from Hadlows the Butchers.
OR CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD A FORM
Alternatively you can complete the form below and post it through 27 West St, letter box is though the archway or email via titchfieldablaze@gmail.com.
Thank you for joining us in lighting Titchfield for Christmas and making the village look festive.
The trees will be ready for you to collect from 9.30am - 1.00pm on Saturday 29 th November from the yard opposite 27 West St, the yard is on left before the path to Garsons. If you are unable to collect your tree please make alternative arrangements with a friend to collect within these times.
These trees are available for Titchfield Village residents - outside trees only.
Please tell your neighbours and friends in the village if they do not know about ordering a tree.
We are a group of local volunteers who co-ordinate the trees; placing an order or 300 English grown trees. They are delivered to the village for collection.
We organise Christmas trees for community buildings like the Parish Rooms and Hadlow’s the butchers provide a tree for the village green – with lights supplied by Freemantle’s, transport by Mark Harris and the star was made by Tony Traves.
Carols around the tree on the Green
A great afternoon of Jazz at the Great Barn
Atlantic Jazz for St Peter’s
If you braved the wind and rain on Sunday for Jazz at the Barn you were well rewarded with a wonderful display of musicianship from Atlantic Jazz. We were lucky to be able to hold the
event inside the barn, which was a treat in itself as it is such a beautiful building.
I would like to thank those of you who came and let you know that we raised an amazing £1,400 for the charity which was an excellent result. All of this will be put to good use in maintaining the church building.
Also I wanted to remind you all about our next event. On Saturday 13th December we will be hosting an evening of Victorian Christmas carols with a local group called ‘Madding Crowd’. This will be a joint venture with Titchfield History Society. The evening will be held in the church and there will be a licensed bar. More information will follow shortly. I do hope you will be able to join us.
I look forward to seeing you there,
What a “Blooming” Good Show!
Titchfield Gardeners Club proudly staged their exhibits
In the space of just two hours, the Titchfield village hall was transformed from an empty room into a colourful and scent filled Eden when members of the Titchfield Gardeners Club proudly staged their exhibits ready for judging at their annual Autumn show.
Picture Kate Davis
It seems that Titchfield also has its’ fair share of “budding” Bake Off and MasterChef contestants, as the side room rapidly filled with culinary delights for tasting. A large display board of photographs also spread across one wall, the photo competition is also a favourite section. Then the doors are closed!
The sound of finger nails being bitten down to their quicks could be heard outside as exhibitors wait for almost 4 hours for the hall to reopen. 2.00pm finally arrives and a throng of anxious faces appear through the door, along with curious visitors. “Did I get a first?” “How many points did I get?” “Have I won a trophy?”
Much pleasure was to be seen and many congratulations were offered throughout the Titchfield gardening fellowship. For there were over 300 exhibits this year and many "first prizes" to be won, the tables bowing in the middle with the sheer number of flowers, plants, fruit, vegetables, jams, pickles and cakes that had kept the judges busy all morning.
Yet again, another successful year for the Gardeners’ Club Horticultural Show. It’s a special event in our community, bringing everyone together, as so often the joy of gardening does.
A total of 18 trophies were up for grabs, too many to list here but special mentions go to Sally Wilson for best exhibit in the show, Katrien Burrows for most points in the show and Timothy Harper, a brand new member, winning best vegetable in his very first show. Julie Nash retains the best flower arrangement for a second year.
A huge thankyou to Marilyn Wilton-Smith for presenting the prizes this year and then of course to the committee and our band of helpers for setting it all up, our judges for casting their expertise eyes and taste buds over the exhibits. Last but not least, a very special thankyou to everyone that entered and visited. Without you, there is no show.
Make a note in your diary. Sat 5th Sept 2026, when we do it all again!
History Society new season
History Society 2025/26 talks
History Society chairman, Sean Searight ,reports on the new season of talks
Welcome to the 2025-26 Season of Talks! Again, we have a very interesting Programme of Talks this season kindly produced by Jo Thoma who is temporarily standing in for David Moore-Kelly. The format will remain the same with the Speaker starting the talk at 7.30pm and then we break for tea, coffee and biscuits at about 8pm before returning for questions to the Speaker. The event normally ends at about 845pm.
The first talk is on Tuesday evening starting at 730pm on 16 September 2025. Can I please encourage as many of you as possible to attend that first talk and bring a friend or family member. Membership is our main source of income which pays for the high-quality speakers amongst many other increasing expenses. Therefore, should your friend or family member decide to sign up as a member, we will allocate 4 free raffle tickets for you in the Christmas draw!
The Treasurer will be shortly sending out an email with renewal forms before the first talk to identify any changes in your details and this will include the THS BACs details for ease of payment. You will be pleased to hear that this year’s fees have not changed from last season and remain at £20 for the year. Visitors wishing to attend one talk also remains at £5. Those of you that prefer to pay on the door, can I please ask you to arrive early e.g. from 7 pm on the first talk to allow our Treasurer time to register your annual membership details and pay. Our Treasurer prefers BACS payment as it makes it easier and less time consuming to register.
We will of course update you all on other events we are planning in the season when we can, so feel free to bring your diaries along with your friends! We look forward to seeing you all in you in the Malt Room, Community Centre on 16 September Doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start.

FLOUR POWER! HOST A CAKES4CANCER EVENT
THIS MAY AND RAISE DOUGH TO SUPPORT LOCAL PEOPLE AFFECTED BY CANCER
If baking takes your (fondant) fancy, Wessex Cancer Support would love you to host a Cakes4Cancer event this May to raise money to support local people affected by cancer.
Rolling out across Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight between 5th and 11th May, Cakes4Cancer is a really simple way to come together with friends, family or colleagues and ‘bake’ a difference by asking for a donation in return for a cuppa and cake.
Catherine Price, Wessex Cancer Support’s Director of Fundraising, said:
“We’re passionate about community at Wessex Cancer Support and believe everyone affected by cancer should be able to get free and local emotional support whenever they need it. Cakes4Cancer is all about people coming together to enjoy something delicious for a great cause. Your event can be as big or small as you want, either in person or virtual. You could put on a coffee morning at work, host an afternoon tea with friends or arrange a bake sale at school. Whether it’s faked or baked, every cake sold could help change someone’s life for the better. It really is a piece of cake!”
The charity has put together a free kit containing everything you need to host your own event, including lots of event ideas, cake toppers, posters and recipe cards. Sign up at Cakes4Cancer 2025 - Wessex Cancer Support
New Affordable Home Completed in Titchfield
Official opening of affordable housing development at Bellfield
Fareham Housing was delighted to welcome the Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Pal Hayre, along with Fareham Borough Councillors to the official opening of its most recent affordable housing development at Bellfield in Titchfield.
Making the most of a large side garden within the grounds of 51 Bellfield, Fareham Housing has built a new three-bedroom home, which will now be occupied by a family from the Council’s housing register.
Southampton-based building contractor, Daintree Developments, which was also in attendance, delivered this project for Fareham Housing. The new home has been specifically designed to suit the character of the area while including modern technology such as solar PV panels and an air source heat pump to provide heating and hot water. This supports the Council’s ambition to become carbon neutral across all its buildings and services by 2030.
Cllr Fred Birkett, Executive Member for Housing at Fareham Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to come along today to see the completion of this new home. Daintree Developments has done a fabulous job in delivering this modern, low-energy home in little over a year, utilising underused brownfield land on the side of an existing property. It may be just the one house, but it will make a big difference to a family from our housing register, and I am sure they will be very happy here.”
You can find more Fareham Borough Council’s affordable housing schemes at www.fareham.gov.
