History Society chairman, Sean Searight ,reports on the new season of talks
Welcome to the 2025-26 Season of Talks! Again, we have a very interesting Programme of Talks this season kindly produced by Jo Thoma who is temporarily standing in for David Moore-Kelly. The format will remain the same with the Speaker starting the talk at 7.30pm and then we break for tea, coffee and biscuits at about 8pm before returning for questions to the Speaker. The event normally ends at about 845pm.
The first talk is on Tuesday evening starting at 730pm on 16 September 2025. Can I please encourage as many of you as possible to attend that first talk and bring a friend or family member. Membership is our main source of income which pays for the high-quality speakers amongst many other increasing expenses. Therefore, should your friend or family member decide to sign up as a member, we will allocate 4 free raffle tickets for you in the Christmas draw!
The Treasurer will be shortly sending out an email with renewal forms before the first talk to identify any changes in your details and this will include the THS BACs details for ease of payment. You will be pleased to hear that this year’s fees have not changed from last season and remain at £20 for the year. Visitors wishing to attend one talk also remains at £5. Those of you that prefer to pay on the door, can I please ask you to arrive early e.g. from 7 pm on the first talk to allow our Treasurer time to register your annual membership details and pay. Our Treasurer prefers BACS payment as it makes it easier and less time consuming to register.
We will of course update you all on other events we are planning in the season when we can, so feel free to bring your diaries along with your friends! We look forward to seeing you all in you in the Malt Room, Community Centre on 16 September Doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start.
