The Day Rooms - your views

CONSULTATION ON PROVISION OF DAY ROOMS AT 24 The Square, Titchfield, Hampshire, P014 4RU

CONSULTATION ON PROVISION OF DAY ROOMS AT 24 The Square, Titchfield, Hampshire, P014 4RU

The Earl of Southampton Trust has been considering how best it can meet one of its charitable objectives, namely the relief of the charitable needs of elderly people in the Ancient Parish of Titchfield which includes Titchfield (parish of St Peter's), Sarisbury and Whiteley (parish of St Paul's), Locks Heath (parish of St John's), Warsash (parish of St Mary's), Stubbington (parish of Holyrood) and Lee on the Solent (parish of St Faith's).

Prior to the pandemic, the Trust provided a day centre at 24 The Square, Titchfield, Hampshire, P014 4RU for the elderly people of the Ancient Parish to drop in, have somewhere to chat, with the provision of drinks and hot food. This was a facility that was used by between 3 - 6 daily visitors, mostly local Titchfield residents.

Unfortunately, as a consequence of the COVID pandemic, and following government guidelines and a risk assessment, the Trust made the difficult decision to close the day rooms to the public as it simply could not enforce safe social distancing or a suitable cleaning regime.

Although the government has relaxed guidelines on social distancing and mask wearing, the Trust has decided not to reopen the day rooms at the moment.

The closure of the day rooms has given the Trust the opportunity to consider how best it can meet the future needs of people across the Ancient Parish of Titchfield.

We are, therefore, looking to consult residents for their views on what becomes of the Day Rooms.

Please take into account the size of the rooms when making suggestions.

The kitchen measures 13 feet x 5 feet.

The room at the front measures 14 feet x 11 feet.

If you have any comments to make, please write to Tracey Kenney, Clerk to the Trust at 24 The Square, Titchfield, Hampshire, P014 4RU or email her on info@eost.org.uk

The consultation period will run until then end of February 2022.

The Trust will then consider the consultation responses before making a decision on the provision of day-centre services.

Bulb planting to brighten Barry's Meadow

Thanks to everyone who took part, and to those who donated bulbs:

The completion of the path through Barry’s Meadow from West Street to the centre of the village with access for pushchairs and buggies prompted the Trust to find other ways of enhancing the space.

So, during the first weekends of November, we organised 2 bulb planting sessions partnering with Titchfield Gardeners Club  and Titchfield Primary School.

Thanks to everyone who took part, and to those who donated bulbs: St. Margaret's Nurseries, Hollam Nurseries, Fareham Borough Council, Titchfield Village Trust, Titchfield Gardeners Club, along with many others.

Thank you also to Daisy B's Kitchen who supplied drinks on both days and kindly donated goodie bags to the children who helped.

At a rough count some 500 or so bulbs were planted and we’re looking forward to the spring to see the fruits of our labour. We hope you enjoy them as well.

Plans are being developed to perhaps encourage more planting next year, and an even more ambitious project is being worked on for other parts of the meadow to improve not only it’s appearance but also help fulfil The Trusts commitment to the ‘Greening of Titchfield Project’ being fostered by Fareham Borough Council

Watch this space for further developments.

Lest we forget. Remembrance Sunday in Titchfield

Village residents today gathered to remember the service…

Village residents today gathered to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces from Britain and the Commonwealth, particularly those from Titchfield.

Following a shortened Sunday Service at St Peter’s Church, the congregation processed the short distance to the Memorial outside the Parish Rooms for an Act of Remembrance.

During the service the names of village residents who have lost their lives were read out by three serving members of the Armed Forces.

The Last Post was followed the two minutes silence, then, after the bugler sounded reveille, wreaths were laid by representatives of The Royal British Legion, The Armed Forces and village organisations.

Before the end of the service Kohima Epitaph was read…

’When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say,

For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.'

The Greening Campaign is coming to Titchfield

Residents in Titchfield are coming together to set up a new campaign to tackle Climate Change.

Residents in Titchfield are coming together to set up a new campaign to tackle Climate Change.

greeningcampaign08_1.jpeg

‘Greening Titchfield’ is an initiative where the community will join forces to help reduce its impact on the environment. The idea is that if enough individuals make small changes in their lives it will collectively make a positive difference.

The campaign will be launched at a public meeting, where residents can learn more about Greening Titchfield, what it involves and how they can take part. The meeting details are as follows:

  • When: Wednesday 20 October, at 6.30pm

  • Where: The Parish Room, High Street, Titchfield

Cllr Simon Martin, Climate Change Champion at Fareham Borough Council, said: “This community-led project has seen great results in other areas. We hope that if it’s successful in Titchfield other parts of the Borough will want to come forward and do their own greening campaigns. I’d encourage residents and community groups in the village to get involved and help make changes to mitigate the effects of Climate Change at a truly local level.”

For more information, please contact climatechange@fareham.gov.uk or call 01329 236100.

More details about the Greening Campaign can be found at www.greening-campaign.co.uk

Get onboard the Smile Train charity sale

Come along this weekend to an amazing charity sale in aid of the Smile Train.

smileVoice.jpg

Come along this weekend to an amazing charity sale in aid of the Smile Train at Meon-Bye-Farm, Titchfield.

Smile Train is an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate.

Many children with untreated clefts around the world live in isolation, but more importantly, have difficulty eating, breathing, hearing, and speaking. Cleft treatment is safe, and the impact on the child is immediate.

A cleft occurs when certain body parts and structures do not fuse together during foetal development.

Clefts can involve the lip and/or the roof of the mouth, which is made up of both hard and soft palate. Around the world, many children with clefts will never receive the reconstructive surgery they need.

Titchfield Abbey WI are back

"We are back! Titchfield Abbey WI are delighted to once again be able to hold monthly meetings

We are back! Titchfield Abbey WI are delighted to once again be able to hold monthly meetings indoors, in a socially distanced way, and with all safety measures being taken.

Some lovely outdoor meetings, sometimes with a picnic, were held during this summer, but having held the first indoor meeting in September everybody is raring to go!

President, Maureen Levenson

President, Maureen Levenson

At the September meeting a presentation was made to the President, Maureen Levenson, of a thankyou certificate for her support, communication, wisdom and humour, as well as a pig planter for her new garden. During the pandemic and lockdowns,

Maureen wrote a total of 70 weekly newsletters, delivered by email and a few on foot, which kept all the members in touch and providing a weekly focus with a touch of wit, news and views. For some who live alone it was a weekly lifeline and Maureen would frequently follow up with telephone calls to those alone or celebrating a birthday or special event.

New members and visitors are always welcome to group meetings, which are generally held on the second Tuesday of each month, always starting at 9.30am, at Titchfield Community Centre.

Women new to the area, or perhaps recently retired or the children are now at school, all ages, are welcome to come along and try this active WI. Tea/coffee with biscuits will be served and there will be an opportunity to meet members and to find out about Titchfield Abbey WI's activities.

Further details of meetings and speakers can be found online by anyone wishing to attend a local meeting, at HCFWI (Hampshire County Federation of Womens' Institutes) and clicking on Titchfield Abbey WI.

Visitors are greeted at the door so please feel welcome to come along. At the October meeting on Tuesday 12 October we will hear Sophie Fryer talk about "Hats Off to Millinery" and on Tuesday 9 November there will be a "Remembrance" themed speaker."

Please note this information refers only to Titchfield Abbey WI, which is a morning group; Titchfield WI is a separate evening group.

Songs for a New World. It’s about one moment.

Songs for a New World is the first musical from Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges Of Madison County), coming to Titchfield Festival Theatre in October.

Songs for a New World image.jpg

It's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs For A New World, this moving collection of powerful songs which examines life, love and the choices we make. It is also about looking forward and knowing that there is always someone there routing for you.

Karla Watkins is the director of Songs for a New World and said,

Songs for a New World is technically a song cycle, a collection of stories from unnamed characters around a theme. They are all based around a moment of decision or change in a person’s life, whether that be circumstantial or they themselves make a decision to change their lives.

“I have been working with cast members in the show on other projects, and I wanted the opportunity to work together with this extremely talented group of amazing singers – Songs for a New World showcases their talent perfectly.

“For me, the show is truly inspirational. The audience will watch as people seek to fight through their difficulties, or make decisions to improve their lives. They will discover that even when people are in turmoil, there still manages to be something uplifting about the music.

“People will particularly enjoy the variety of music there is in this show. There is something for everyone, from your traditional sounding musical ballads to songs with elements of jazz or funk. The singers are incredible and will have people on the edge of their seats with the performances they will be giving.”

Titchfield Festival Theatre’s production of Songs for a New World opens at the Titchfield Festival Theatre, St Margarets Lane on Monday 11th October until Saturday 16th October 2021. Evening shows start at 7.30pm.

For more information including booking tickets, please go to http://titchfieldfestivaltheatre.com/  or contact our Box Office on 0333 666 3366. Songs for a New World will be also streamed live on Friday 15th & Saturday 16th October 2021.

British Gas help with Jigsaws

Jigsaws Pre-school, based within the Scout Hall at Titchfield Community Centre, were delighted to have British Gas help with a Charity Day to help set up their garden area.

Planters and wall planters, made from pallets

Planters and wall planters, made from pallets

Jigsaws Pre-school, based within the Scout Hall at Titchfield Community Centre, were delighted to have British Gas help with a Charity Day to help set up their garden area next to the Community Centre.

They built planters and filled them with 17 bags of soil.  They made wall planters from pallets, put 3 tonnes of wood clippings down and cut back the brambles.

They made a drain cover to make the area safe for the children and then made a Mud Kitchen for the children to use.

IMG_0456.jpeg

Jigsaws are so grateful for the work that was carried out because it means the plans for planting can now take place for September when the children return to pre-school.

There are lots of lovely plans including a vegetable patch, a herb garden, water planter, and lots of lovely bits to add to the area, including a bug hotel, bird feeders and scarecrows.

Jigsaws would like to say thank you to Steve, Jack, Neal, Sonny, Steve and Mark from British Gas for their amazing help.

They were happy with their constant supply of tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes, and of course lunch from the Bakers!
