The Repair Cafe in Titchfield
Second Repair Cafe in Titchfield sees 26kg of waste diverted from landfill, 146kg of CO2 emissions avoided, and many happy residents!
On Saturday 18th July, Repair Cafe Titchfield opened its doors for the second time - this time the doors were those of The Queens Head who very kindly let us use their upstairs room free of charge. It was a great venue that further added to the busy, purposeful and friendly atmosphere that is such a feature of Repair Cafes wherever they are in the country.
Once again we were fully booked before the day with a real variety of items needing attention - from the perennial staples of vacuum cleaners and lamps to a mirror frame, hairdryer and even an axe!
Geoff and his sharpening equipment were especially busy with an array of tools, gardening equipment and scissors being given a new lease of life. Janet and her needle were also continually occupied mending holes and tears in shorts and other clothing items; in many cases satisfied customers commented that you would never have known the items had been repaired.
A total of 18 items were seen; only 2 were deemed as ‘end-of-life’ and a further 2 required spare parts which customers were given advice on how to source.
We were delighted to welcome 2 new Titchfield-based volunteers to the team, and a number of interested residents who dropped in to see what was happening and to find out more. A huge thank you to everyone that took part, especially our skilled and dedicated repairers - you are stars!
